Application process.
What is the age requirement?
Young is generally below 40 years old. We consider the word young with an open mind, as long as you have fresh and bright ideas you can be considered young.
How do I define my practice?
We treat as open as possibile, we accept visual artists, sculpturers , painters and photographers.
The Palazzo x SARP Residency Program
What equipment do you have?
We have 2 studio, which are equipped with desks and chairs. We also have a workshop with a variety of tools. Artists can work outdoor and indoor.
How do I get to Palazzo Previtera?
The residency program is conducted in partnership with Palazzo Previtera, which is set in Linguaglossa, 40 km away from Catania. Linguaglossa is connected via bus to Catania and other towns nearby. However, we provide airport transfer for residents.
Can I come with my family?
We do accept residents who want to bring their families. We require artist to inform the organisers , as we will review each request on ad hoc basis.
Will I have to share a studio?
The studio spaces differ in size , but there is plenty of room for your creations even if sharing.
We allocate the appropriate spaces based on the residents practice. On occasion an artist will have their own studio space, but most often residents will have to share a studio. We try to never have more than 3 artists allocated in one studio space.
Will I share the accommodation?
This differ residency by residency, but we try to allocate a private room with a bathroom to each artist. Accommodation can be a private room in the Palazzo, to a studio flat within 3 minutes walk to the premises of the Palazzo.
How long is the residency period?
The residency period depends on the type of residency. it is usually 3 weeks.
Can I finish the residency period earlier?
Whilst we do not recommend to finish the residency period earlier. if for whatever reason the artist has to leave the program earlier than expected, it should inform the organisers as soon as possible about his/her request. Ad hoc solution can be found.
Are there any exhibition opportunities?
This depends on the residency program. if the quality of the works produced are outstanding, an exhibition at the end of the residency program will be organised.
Costs for unfunded residency
What is the cost of the residency?
There is a daily charge of 10 euro. The residency fees are priced as such to maintain the sustainability of the program.
What is included in the residency?
The residency includes accommodation, studio space.
What is not included in the residency?
We do not cover any travel costs, extra living expenses, drinks, materials or insurance.
What other costs should I expect?Residents pay for their own grocery shopping and for any extras that may incur during the trip. It is also recommended (but not necessary) that residents hire a car. Linguaglossa is connected to Catania via buses and train.
Do you offer any funding or scholarships?
Unfortunately we cannot offer any funding to artists, as we are a not-for-profit independent arts programme and do not receive any external funding. However, in the case of an artist who is applying for financial support from other institutions we are are more than happy to provide letters of invitation or other documents supporting their applications. For applicants who have already funding assistance we are happy to work with them.
What do I do with the painting produced in Sicily?
Artists are encouraged to do their own arrangements. SARP does not pay for shipping back the paintings/sculpure or any other artistic or no artistic output to their desired or not desired destined countries.
Can artist donate paintings to SARP?
At the purest will of the artist, one painting should be donated to SARP as it will be part of SARP Art Collection. Donated paintings will be used as subject matter for the next residency program and will be used to promote contemporary art in Sicily.
