MATHIAS MALLING MORTESEN INNER SOUND
They are part of a geometric abstraction emphasising the luminous surface of the painting into natural and crossed lines. A careful look of his paintings reveals the deteriorating marks of his brush strokes, gently distorting the two-dimensional picture surface and creating a surprise to the observer. In his paper cuttings, he cuts the paper with absolute perfection: works often comprise of small or big geometric cuts which then become part of a harmonious composition. Each cut has been done with a single gesture and there is affinity between rawness of the cut and the colour applied to it. Mortensen's paintings and paper cuttings succeed in creating a language of Inner Sound in which no one is fully present unless the depth of colour, forms and shapes bring a synaestethic reference to the future.
