INVISIBLES LANDSCAPES

SARP is pleased to present Invisible Landscapes, a solo exhibition by Silvia Giordani (b. Vicenza, 1992), featuring new works created during the artist's residency at SARP Artist Residency and Studios in Linguaglossa.
The paintings on view emerge from the encounter between memory and the direct experience of the Sicilian landscape, shaping a territory in constant flux where the forms, atmospheres, and enduring presence of Mount Etna resonate. For Silvia Giordani, painting is not about representing what is visible, but about giving form to the invisible: the landscape becomes the medium through which the hidden energies inhabiting a place come to light. As Paul Klee famously wrote, "Art does not reproduce the visible; rather, it makes visible." Sky, rock, light, and wind are not treated as separate elements but as forces in continuous transformation, shaping one another through an ever-changing relationship with reality. Her works invite viewers to experience nature not as a static image, but as an event—fluid, luminous, and alive. Set within suspended, ethereal spaces constructed through diverse materials, flat fields of colour, and subtle gradients, these elements create a sense of temporal suspension.Giordani conceives light as both matter and mystery, capable of dissolving the boundaries between earth and sky, solidity and atmosphere. Her works explore a world where geological permanence meets atmospheric impermanence, where stone seems to breathe and wind takes on form. Colour becomes weather; gesture becomes movement. Rather than describing a place, these works evoke the emotional and elemental experience of inhabiting it. The exhibition unfolds as a journey through the invisible forces that shape the landscape: light carried by the air, wind slowly sculpting rock, the horizon as a threshold between what appears and what escapes the eye. Each painting opens a space for contemplation in which perception slows down and the familiar elements of nature recover their sense of wonder. In an era increasingly marked by environmental uncertainty, Giordani's paintings remind us that landscape is not merely scenery, but a living relationship between matter, atmosphere, and human consciousness. They invite us to rediscover the sublime as an experience of attentive perception, recognizing that beauty lies not in permanence, but in the continual transformation of the world around us.
